In 2024, Apple launched iPhone Mirroring for Mac — everywhere except the EU. Due to the Digital Markets Act, European users were left out while the US and Asia got it on day one.

Specchio exists because that's not acceptable. It's an act of self-determination: if Apple won't bring iPhone Mirroring to Europe, we'll build it ourselves. Open source, no restrictions, no waiting for regulatory negotiations.

The name says it all — specchio is Italian for mirror.

No. Specchio uses a free personal Apple ID to sign WebDriverAgent. You just need Xcode installed (free from the Mac App Store). No $99/year developer program required.

Specchio uses a custom fork of Apple's WebDriverAgent (WDA) optimized for real-time screen mirroring and low-latency input. It needs to be built and installed on your device once, which requires Xcode's build tools. Subsequent launches are instant thanks to build caching.

The free tier requires a USB connection. With Premium, you can mirror over WiFi after the initial USB pairing. The first connection must always be USB to install WDA on your iPhone.

Screenshot (free): captures frames at up to 15 FPS. Good for basic use.
MJPEG (premium): real-time video stream at up to 60 FPS over USB. Smooth and responsive.

Specchio validates your license on each launch. If you're offline, a 7-day grace period keeps premium features active. After 7 days without internet, it reverts to the free tier until you're back online.
